So far so good, I guess. Some of you may have heard the various sagas of my boss and her astonishing ability to not be at work. Her latest has effectively meant that for the entirety of this month and probably at least some of the next (on past experience I'm not actually going to even guess when she'll next come in) I will be flying solo. Of course this is just as we head into what is traditionally our busy period. Earlier this week I was solo rep for a conference we hold a couple of events at, which seemed to go fairly well. In fact it was possibly the least stressful one of those I've done - apparently the trick is not to have your boss with you. Of course, I then spent the entirety of today just playing catch-up.
Next week, I have to stand in for her at a meeting of the council that owns us. I've met virtually all of them in passing at some point or another. A few of them I've met a little more often. It'll be London and back in a day with probably a 3-4 hour meeting in the middle that I will be minuting and therefore can't just doze off in a corner - this is going to make for a long day, but we'll see how it goes.
So it's all a bit stressful and high pressure at the moment, but it gives me some visibility as me, rather than an adjunct to her - which is quite frankly a bit laughable given how much of her stuff I seem to end up doing, but it's not *visible* outside of the office and hopefully this should help that.
In other more interesting news, I'm conscious that I owe at least one fic and I'm contemplating signing up for the HL shortcuts this year, but I just don't know... so much of my focus is on work at the moment that outside of it my concentration is approximately nil. I keep wanting to write something vaguely - I don't know... supernatural or something, but it's all a bit naff and plotless and I have no focus :(
