Okay, so, last week Nick, my Aikido Sensei asked that people estimate the number of hours since their last gradings as he felt he needed to keep better track of who was due when. He asked me to do this and I think Marie as well after our last gradings way back in April or whatever, so I'd been keeping track.
I wasn't sure how many hours of practice were required between 3rd kyu and 2nd so I asked Marie, she thought it was about 180. Fine. Added them up... hmm not so good, but hey that puts it probably after Christmas or into the New Year since everything gets delayed round then.
Told Nick the total this evening - 130. Turns out the requirement is actually 160 hours, so he claps his hands with glee and says great should be enough time for you to prepare. I am *really* hoping he's joking. At my current rate of attendence I'm looking at about the end of November. I mean nothing says you have to do a grading as soon as you've met the hourly requirement, you just can't do one before.
Strangely I've had piss-poor concentration in classes for weeks and today was actually the first class in ages where I felt like I was actually making some kind of improvement - so not ready for 2nd kyu though :-( I'll try to improve and hope my concentration doesn't go butterfly on me again, but *I* wouldn't have passed me on my last grading so I feel like I'll have to have made that much more improvement to pass this one - whenever it is...
I tried to tell him the 130 was actually dog hours, but I don't think he believed me :-( Ray was gloating in a most unseemly manner since he's only done about 100 and he needs 250 before he can take his 1st kyu - git.
In better news Melvin is back after his heart attack, nice to seem him again and he looked well, he's still a bit rough and a bit like practicing with a golem, but *shrug* it's nice to know he's recovered well and the Doctor was all for him picking Aikido up again once he'd recovered sufficiently. So yay!
