And so...
Trust

It's not about trust. Eliot's a thief, they all are, and they're all very good at it because they don't trust. Not their opponents, not second-hand information and most definitely not each other. It's about pride in themselves, in their work. It's about being professional. Sloppy research is unprofessional, underestimating an opponent is unprofessional, relying on other people is unprofessional. It's obvious common sense to use the opportunity provided by an expert who won't shut up about what he does to acquire new skills. It's only smart to use pizza and movie nights to gather information; blackmail's always been kind of low, but as back-up plans go it's a good one. It's sound business sense to do occasional favours because it means you're owed, and debts are worth more than cold, hard cash in the realms they work in. It's all perfectly reasonable, perfectly professional and clearly could never be attributed to anything as stupid as trust. Trust is unprofessional and friends trust, so clearly he and Hardison can't be friends. Whatever Sophie says.
